Shake It Off

People criticize you... shake it off
You feel misunderstood... shake it off
Life has treated you unfairly... shake it off
Others do it so much better than you... shake it off
Put an end to your self-pity party
Pick yourself up, shake it off and move on

  1. Any time in my life when I have been deeply upset by something or someone, I have used a letter or a journal to pour out my thoughts and feelings. It is as if while writing it the pain and sorrow flow out my fingers onto paper. It is cleansing!

    1. I share your habit of writing it out, and in doing so releasing it's power over me. I suspect that many of us blog from time to time as a way of "shaking it off". Our feelings are legitimate, but we need to find ways not to let them cloud our thinking or our belief in ourselves!

    1. I think we all throw pity parties for ourselves now and then, Ida, the point is to get past it. Have your party, but don't continue to dwell there for long. :-)

  4. Is that anything like saying "calm down?"

    1. Yes, or "get over it". People who feel sorry for themselves as a chronic way of life, generally aren't very happy or productive.

  5. There are so many things we have to shake off in life. But shaking them off without learning and growing from experiences is annoying too. We all know those individuals who always blame someone else for his or her misery. Perhaps if they shake it off and grow and learn from the negativity their lives would turn around. I like the style of this SSS.

    1. You are right, Val, there is the shaking off of situations we have no control over and can't do anything about, and then there is the shaking off of responsibility and the obligation to take care of things. I know one or two that I suspect will never quite reach that point of maturity. Or as one stated it clearly "I don't like responsibility". SIGH In that case it's the attitude that needs to be shaken off! ;-)

  6. You packed a lot of wisdom into those sentences. What a great six sentence story! I guess all your A-Z practice really paid off.

    1. Thank you, just a short piece about not taking everything in life so personally, and not blaming everyone and everything other than yourself when issues arise that need to be dealt with!

    1. That's true, Mimi, sometimes we get hurt deeply by a careless word or unintentional act. With practice we can learn to "shake it off" and not let it spoil or day or our view of the world.

    1. We really just have two choices, Maz, we can shake it off and not let it affect us, or we can dwell on it in misery.

  9. very cool. the sentiment and the execution, direct to the point and, most important (imo) so much space for the reader to put themselves into, to draw a benefit from.

    1. Thank you, Neel. I really believe this message, we have a choice about what we let affect us and control us, and often the choice should be to shake it off and move forward!

    1. Thank you Kalpana, I agree! We tend to let too many things be our excuses in life.
