Thankful Thoughts - January 7, 2017

I am thankful for coming to point at last where I can say, "I forgive you" and mean it, in a few situations where I've been harboring resentment for awhile... a long while. That doesn't mean I excuse what happened or think it was ok, it means that I've released its emotional hold on me. I can look at those people and situations with detachment,  and move on. I needed that peace, letting go feels good.

  1. I think it is impossible to forgive in some cases. But one is able to detach oneself from the existence of such people.

    1. Yes, there are definitely situations where we need to separate ourselves from people who are not a positive influence in our lives. Just because we forgive does not mean we have to allow them more opportunities to cause problems in our lives.

  2. Some feel they can't forgive because they can't forget. But we can forgive even if we can't forget. Because as you say we can let go. Though that is hard and takes time it is rewarded.

    1. I'm not sure we always forget or even should, Patricia. We need to remember the lessons we learn, but forgiveness is about letting go, about not holding resentment toward the person who hurt us or caused us harm. It has taken me a long, long time to reach that point in a couple cases, but I realized it IS time. Do it now.

  3. You've given up all hope of having a better past. That's a good thing, it means you can work toward a better future.

    1. That's true, Mimi, the past is just that - in the past, I am focusing on the present now, and placing my hope in the future. What he have to start from a place of what is, not what we wish was.

  4. Forgiveness isn't always easy and isn't about the other person but about how we are coping and dealing with the stuff, that said sometimes we just have to forgive a person for being a stupid, pain in the ass

  5. I need divine help sometimes to forgive certain things, but I eventually get there. It's just not a good life walking around with all THAT UGH in your heart and mind.

    1. I suspect that many of us have needed God's help to overcome some resentments and hurts from the past, but it feels so wonderful when we finally let it go.
