Thankful Thoughts - January 16, 2017

I am thankful for little luxuries like the icemaker in our fridge.  I make iced tea daily and use a lot of ice to cool the pitcher down quickly.  I remember the days of refilling metal ice trays for the freezer, dripping as they were carried across the floor from the sink, and my mom rationing the cubes until more had time to freeze.  We take things like icemakers for granted while there are places in this country where people can't even get a glass of water from the faucet that's safe to drink.

  1. No ice maker here, but it's okay, we have good drinking water, and that's a blessing. We can always go buy a bag of ice if we really need some.

    1. Good drinking water is definitely a blessing, Mimi. I lived in a city that had terrible water, foul tasting and smelling. It couldn't have been good for us. A bag of ice works great. I suppose that was a luxury item back in my parent's time.

    2. Don't even want to think about ice as the temperature is so low here and my hands are cold. Although we did just have banana and ice cream for afters this evening.

    3. We eat ice cream all year around too, Marian, and then I sit there chilled with my lap blanket wrapped around me! My hands and feet are always cold, Papa Bear can attest to that! :-)

  2. At times I wish I had an ice maker, like days like today

    1. I've spent far more years without one than with one, Jo-Anne, and we could surely live without it, but they do come in really handy.

  3. I've never had an ice maker so I still drip on the floor!

    1. I can remember my mother fussing, and me fussing at my children as the trays were carried across the kitchen floor sloshing water as they went. I bet you walk more carefully than we did as children!

  4. I still have the old fashioned trays that clean your floor at the same time. LOL Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I put an ice cube in a glass though - I normally don't like drinks really cold.

    1. I remember many wiped up spills on Mom's kitchen floor as we tried to walk to fast and water sloshed from the trays! I think living in such a hot place we get used to icing everything here. Now we have the new thermal mugs that require very little ice to stay cold for hours, love them! They do equally well with hot drinks too.
