Cackleberry Scramble

Long before Papa Bear was known by that name,
he was a small boy called Johnny Mac, living on a farm in Missouri.
Gathering the cackleberries was one of his assigned chores.
I asked him if he every fell while carrying the full basket.
"No" he responded, "I would have gotten my butt busted if they broke!"

    1. Thanks, Pen! I love listening to his stories about life on the farm. He lived there four years when he was very young.

    1. Thanks, Mimi! Just a fun little growing up memory. Kids worked hard back then, it was expected as a member of the family. I think we need a lot more of that in today's world where children are so often catered to and have little if any responsibility at home.
