A Quick Fix

"Well, this is a fine mess you've gotten us into," Jo snarled, fixing her eyes squarely on Bart's face.

Bart lowered his head to avoid her gaze, knowing full well how unhappy she already was about the camping trip he'd planned for their vacation instead of their usual trip to the big city, and now here they were at lake in the middle of nowhere with the truck broken down and out of cell phone service range.

"We might as well set up camp for tonight, and I'll try to figure something out in the morning," he said wearily.

Early the next morning Bart managed to wave down a man in a boat fishing nearby and enlisted his assistance.

Bart settled into his camp chair and smiled as the fisherman headed off to the little store on the opposite shore with Jo, where she could call their son to come and get her, after assuring Bart that he'd be back in three days time to help him fix the truck.

It looked like it was going to be a great vacation after all.  :-)

  1. Interesting. I have, of course, too many sinister questions. Did Bart plan the trip to make her unhappy on purpose? Is the guy in the boat OK? Like how do we know he's not an ax murderer? Will he take Jo safely to the store? Will he return and help fix the truck? Will he return and do something terrible to Bart?

Clearly, I watch too much Law and Order on TV. :D

  5. This is a great story and has so many possibilities to expand it into murder, an affair or even the usual "one that got away", whether it be fish or wife is up to you.

    1. You made me laugh, Old Egg... the wife or the fish! I suspect Bart would be happier if it was the wife! ;-)

    1. I agree, she didn't want to be there and he did, so maybe they will both enjoy doing there own thing for a few days.

    1. Very true, Mimi, it sounds like he is just fine with the idea of a few days at the lake all by himself!

  9. Bart went to lots of lengths to get some alone time. Can city girl find happiness with country boy? I wonder.

    1. It would have been so much simpler just to communicate and agree to have a few days apart from each other to do what each enjoys. Sadly, some couples don't communicate that well. I think that a city girl and a country boy can be very happy together IF they respect each other's way of life and can enjoy a part of that too.

  11. Oh I don't mind an impromptu camping trip at all... there's romantic potentional - but here, ooohhhh it feels like it could go in so many directions and I love that we are left guessing a little.

    1. I agree, I would welcome a camping trip in a secluded spot, but it doesn't sound like Jo enjoys them all that much, she was quick to ditch him when the opportunity came!
