The Magic Carpet Ride

~Author Unknown~

I saw the above poem on Facebook recently, and it was so perfect. For those of us who love reading, books have been our best friends since an early age. They fill our minds with wonder and take us places we've never been in real life.  They make us laugh, they make us cry, they gives us windows into the lives of people we wish we knew, and those we're glad we don't.  When we are sad they comfort us, when we are lonely they keep us company. When we are happy they enhance our pleasure.  When we follow characters from chapter to chapter and sometimes sequel to sequel, we become a part of their adventure and we grow right along with them.

From the time I was old enough to hold a book I knew that magic existed on the pages between the covers.  I've traveled far and wide  on the magic carpet of reading and learned a great deal more than I ever did in school.  Books show us how amazing and diverse our world is!

I can't imagine how different I would be if books had not been my companions through the years. I many ways I have them to thank for what I have learned about people, life, and what's truly important. I have to agree with Alice Hoffman's quote below that books are true magic... they have the power to unlock minds!
I'm joining Patricia for In Other Words
where this week's writing prompt
is the following quotation by Alice Hoffman:

"Books may well be the only true magic."

  1. That is a beautiful poem and so true.

  2. I love the poem! And your words resonate with me. Life would have been and would be the pits without books. They are indeed magic. Thanks for sharing with In Other Words.

  3. It's an incredible gift to know the true meaning of "lost in a book!" :)

Your comments are always appreciated... they make me smile! :-)
