You Have The Power

I'm joining Patricia at Patricia's Place for In Other Words where the current writing prompt is the following quotation by Alice Walker...
"The most common way people give up their
power is by thinking they don't have any."

When I read this quotation what immediately came to mind is my favorite passage from "The God Memorandum" by Og Mendino:

Just as it says in this passage, we have power, it was given to us by our Creator. The greatest power we were given is the power of free will - the power to choose.  Everything depends on what we do with that power, the choices we make for our lives.

We have the power to make good choices that will lead to happy and fulfilled lives. Equally important, by reassessing our choices, we have the power to implement change in our lives, to choose a new direction - to choose all the things we were meant to be from the very beginning.

Never believe for one moment that you do not have the power to change your life, you have had it all along... all you have to do is claim it.

  3. So often I feel as if I have no power, and this is a reminder that we all have the power to choose. Wielding no personal power, becoming a victim of circumstance and beholden to the power of those around us, is also a choice.

    1. I agree Val, this is such a great reminder that we do, always, have some control over our lives, not always over the events, but over how we respond. It is also very easy to let others steal our power and make us feel weak and vulnerable. We can take it back though, I've done it! No more doormat for Josie Two Shoes!!

  4. Even if all you can choose is to take the next breath, do it!

    1. That is so very true, Mimi, and sometimes that is all we can do, just choose to breathe, and then put one foot in front of the other... one step at a time. I've been there, and even that tiny choice gives us power over our lives!

  5. It is a grand thing to have power to choose. Even when our choices are limited or when circumstances seem to leave us no choice we still have the power in us to choose how we respond, positively or negatively. We can use or misuse our power again the choices ours. Your response to the prompt is one to make us think. Thank you for sharing.

  6. Choice is a powerful thing, indeed. While we can change our situation, even our life, we need to always remember that our choices affect others. We need to choose carefully in all things. Good interpretation of the prompt.
