No Free Rides

It becomes all too easy to become a passive observer in life, content to let others make the decisions and plans, and take care of all the details while you just come along for the ride.  There are a couple big problems with this as I see it, the first being that if you aren't willing to help make decisions and implement them, you have no right to complain about what is done.  That kind of apathy can lead  you into situations you really want no part of.

The second problem I have with apathy is that I believe it takes each and every one of us doing our part, contributing what we can, to make our communities, countries, and world a good place to live.  If we don't pick up the trash on the sidewalk, who will?  If we don't feed the hungry, or find ways to house the homeless, who will.  If we don't work to build bridges of peace, how will it ever happen?

We are all tenants of the same planet, if it is neglected, damaged, or destroyed, we will all live or die with the consequences. That is why it is so critical that we all take an active interest, and find a way to use our talents and interests to keep things going in the right direction, in a way that will serve to benefit us all.

No other person is able to contribute exactly what you can.  It is no one's job to do your part for you or in place of you. It is not good enough to be a thinker and a dreamer, you must work to make those thoughts and dreams a reality.  We are all family, we all occupy a single "space ship".  We must rely on each other.  For those who are able, there should be no free rides in life. Get up, show up, join in or lead the way!

    1. That's the underlying issue, Mimi, that everyone learns to take responsibilty for their choices and their actions, both good and bad. We have the power to choose!

  3. LOVE this!! It's what I call a Truth Bomb. We are all connected, and the more we start living with that mindset; the better this planet will be.

    1. I couldn't agree with your more Rory, it's not us and them, is it WE - all of us together.

  4. We do all have a responsibility to take care of this home planet of ours, some in big ways and some in little ways. Maybe if we took better care of Spaceship Earth we would be kinder to one another. Thanks for being a part of In Other Words.

    1. I agree Patricia. People tend to think that they must do something huge to make a difference, but it starts one on one, with small steps, with people coming together to support causes that will bring us all together and save our world. Thank you for a great prompt that I enjoyed writing for!
