How I Met Papa Bear

Yesterday marked the eighth anniversary of the first night I met Papa Bear.  I drove the ninety miles from Hobbs, New Mexico where I'd been living for twenty years, to Odessa, Texas after work on that fateful Friday in January to spend the weekend getting to know him.

Our first meeting is fun memory that we often talk about, with both of us so nervous and yet so excited to finally meet after the many, many hours of late night phone conversation that had occurred in the three weeks prior to this first official date.

We already knew we'd be great friends, we didn't know if their would be chemistry between us when we were actually together.  Just two weeks later he would purchase the house that was to become our home.  <3

Several bloggers that I've met in recent years have asked how I met Papa Bear.  I went back to my archives and found this post from 2009 that tells the story.  I hope you enjoy it...

  1. What a great story.
I must admit, before I started blogging, I would have been very skeptical of finding love on the Internet. Now, not in the least. Sure, we have to be cautious, but it can work. My sister found her husband on a dating site, too. :)

    1. Thanks Christine! You are so right, I was skeptical at first too. There are a lot of people with problems and issues on such sites, but there are also some awesome folks looking for long term relationships. I believe that God uses many means to introduce us to each other, the Internet falls into that category.

Happy Anniversary to two of the sweetest people I've had the privilege of meeting.

    1. Thanks Gail! It seems impossible that we've already been together for eight years, and yet my life before Papa Bear seems long, long ago. It is a fairy tale story, with a very blessed ending!

  5. I loved reading the story. It brings to mind that quote, the best revenge (to the naysayers) is living well. I wish you and John continued beauty and love in your marriage.

    1. Thank you Val! I agree, I love proving people wrong who thinks all things related to the Internet and online dating are evil. There is good and evil to be found everywhere. We just need to be very careful in sorting it out which is which! Ours is a happy-ever-after 'til death do us part story, and even then love remains unbroken, I am certain of that!

    1. It's very much like finding a diamond in the rough, Mimi. Who would have thought such a gem was behind a personals ad?! I believe it was Divine Guidance that led to me respond to that ad!

    1. The most amazing blessing of my life, Patricia! I think that courage begins with that tiny flame of hope that says "just maybe...". I like to believe that anything is possible!
