Brett's Project

"How's the project coming along?" Michael asked, leaning over Brett's shoulder to survey his work.

The Bougain Corporation had long enjoyed a reputation of excellence for it's prize-winning floats in the annual Founders Day Parade, and each year their top draftsmen vied for the privilege of designing the winning entry.  This year's theme was "Fantasy" and Michael was amazed by the elaborate dragon float taking shape on the drafting board in front of Brett.

"This one's going to be like nothing they've ever seen before," Brett responded.  Yes, it most definitely was, he though to himself, smiling inwardly.  Brett was up to here with the way the company had overlooked his talent year after year when promotions were handed out, and he was going to make sure that his final project for Bougain left a lasting impression, giving a whole new meaning to "going out with a bang."

  1. OUCH! OH NO! I used to make floats... it was so much fun... I guess I cant say I used to make them when really I only helped with maybe four... but I loved doing it! You have a malicious little twist going on here! Huh!

  2. Hi, Josie! *waving furiously*
This is great - a terrible reflection of the violence in our world, though, no? I actually had something particular in mind for mine, but after yesterday's on-air shooting, I absolutely had to pull it and re-do.

    1. Yes, I think it is a reflection of how it seems now days that even the most simple things can so easily become convoluted. This reflects the feeling that nowhere is truly safe anymore, innocence lost.

  3. Sweet revenge. Diabolical, really. That photo is incredible.

    1. I loved the photo too, Val. It was perfect. Wouldn't we love to see it coming down the street?! Not so sweet revenge I think! Yes, very diabolical. Sometimes something very evil can be concealed by outer appearances. I am not saying that Brett's intent was evil though, perhaps more that he is deeply disturbed and that is going to be manifested in an evil way.

  4. There is something awfully sad in this where the lust for revenge is stronger than just walking away from an unsatisfactory situation. This makes the person blind to the damage they may do to innocent people.

    1. I totally agree with you Old Egg. Why does it seem to be so common now that people resort to extreme reactions when they are unhappy, upset, or feeling undervalued? There are always better options... more sane options, most certainly. Violence never solves anything, and any momentary notoriety gained is quickly replaced by revulsion. Maybe we need to work more on educating children to become functional adults that can deal with change, disappointment, and even rejection without crumbling or going to some outrageous extreme such as this.

  5. these Six Sentences stories are interesting, not only for the entertainment value, but very much for the discussions that are generated.
(for my part, more and more, it seems that people feel isolated and, as a result, feel compelled to have an effect on the world (unfortunately more often negatively than positively), and, that very isolation creates such a high level of me + the world that horrendous acts seem valid, if for no other reason than the person does not see anyone else as being particularly 'real')

    1. This was a very interesting insight Clark, and I have to agree with you. It's sad and kind of scary.

  7. This is unfortunately so timely appropriate. In this day something like this seems so plausible. Clark's comment is a really good description of the challenges society at large faces.
