Under The Bed

Selina hadn't been sleeping well lately.  She hadn't really felt right since she and Ricardo broke up.  She hated living alone, the house was too quiet.  To make matters worse, there was something going on that she couldn't figure out.   Red roses kept appearing out of nowhere.

The first one showed up on her desk at work, laying across the stack of files she'd been working on before lunch.  Ok she thought, maybe someone there was being sweet, but she asked around their small office and no one knew anything about it, they seemed as puzzled as she was.

Next there was one on the windshield of her car when she came out of the grocery store a couple days later.  A third rose appeared the next evening in the entrance to her apartment building, leaned up against her mailbox.  Her first thought was that she had a secret admirer, but it was beginning to feel a little creepy.

The following night Selina woke up suddenly with the feeling that she wasn't alone... or had she been dreaming?  Instantly alert, she laid there a few minutes barely breathing, heart pounding, but she heard nothing and didn't sense any movement in the room.

"Good grief," she thought to herself, "this rose thing is messing with my mind." She got up, made herself a cup of chamomile tea, and then went back to sleep.

The next morning as Selina was getting dressed for work, she bent over to retrieve one of her shoes that she had accidentally kicked under the edge of the bed.  Reaching for the shoe, she let out a shriek.  There beside it laid a perfect red rose.

  1. Ok, now of course I want to know more. How did the rose get there? Who put it there? Is it maybe from Ricardo who wants to get back (which means he still has a key to the home... that IS creepy). It can't be from a secret admirer - at least I hope not; if it is a secret admirer he is super creepy and she better stays away from him. I get goose bumps just thinking of that...

    1. I agree with you Carole, no matter who/how it got there, it's creepy and really can't be a good thing, now that it's happening IN her apartment!

  2. Chills up the spine sort of a story. Except I'm going with the thought that Ricardo is sorry and wants to get back together.

    1. You could be right Val, but I sure don't think it's going to go over well if he hides out in her apartment or sneaks in when she's not there. I certainly hope she would have changed the locks... ALWAYS change the locks. Ours have a combination which can easily be changed!

    1. I think if this was me, at first I would be charmed by the secret admirer, then would become concerned as it became to close for comfort... and in the house... terrifying!! Papa Bear says maybe it wasn't someone but rather "something"! Scarier yet!!

    1. Amen, Mimi! I do not want to find anyone or anything unusual in my bedroom at night! Even shadows can be scary enough!

    1. That's the fun part, Feta Jayne, leaving us all wanting to know what's going on and what will happen next. It might make a great intro for a longer story. :-)
