Each day this month I'll be sharing a list of things corresponding to the alphabet letter of the day that encourage and uplift me, the little things that make me smile. I hope you'll join me, and maybe add some of your own in the comments!
Iced Tea - My beverage of choice, since I'm allergic to coffee. I drink iced tea for breakfast and throughout the day. Papa Bear prefers Southern-style sweet tea. I like that too, but I don't think it is as refreshing and I surely don't need all that sugar in addition to my chocolate addiction!
Internet - I would surely be remiss if I failed to note how much the Internet enhances my life. Truthfully, I would be so lost and lonely without it! And to think that 20 years ago I barely knew what it was. I had no idea how it was about to change my life... everyone's lives!
Inner Tubes - Seeing these brings back sweet memories of childhood - floating on them in the lake in the summertime, and sliding down slippery snow-packed hills in them in the wintertime! Life was so much simpler then. Fun was simpler too, and far less expensive!
Ink - As in tattoos... yup, I love 'em - when they are done well and represent something meaningful. I have eight that range from tiny to a spray of flowers that runs the length of my spine. I got my first one when I was nearly 40, and my most recent one for my 60th birthday! I am not a fan of the full sleeve or covered legs thing though, a bit much for my tastes!
Imagination - Or more accurately, people who exercise their imagination and aren't afraid to let it run wild a bit now and then. Imagination is such an amazing gift - we can enjoy daydreams, enhance our surroundings, create entertaining forms of play and relaxation, and write stories about lives that none of us will likely ever lead! I fee sad for people who only use their imagination to conjure up fears.
Incense Another flashback to youthful days of carefree abandon. If I happen to encounter a stick of patchouli or sandalwood incense burning, all I have to do is close my eyes and the memories return. Several years ago I did the planning for the annual agency banquet where I worked. We used a '60s theme complete with tie-dyed attire, lava lamps, peace signs, love beads, and incense burning at the door. The Chief of Police who served on our board of directors laughingly noted that he typically saw incense being used as a cover for illegal things and should perhaps begin a search :-)
IPad - I do so love the iPad that Papa Bear gave me last Christmas! It is the perfect device for Kindle reading, blog reading, playing Words With Friends and Dice Buddies, and keeping up with Facebook. It's also great for lunchtime at work and weekend trips. So much easier on old eyes than a phone screen, thought I love my iPhone too. Don't try to take away my toys... you could get hurt! :-)
Ice Cream - Another no-brainer reason to smile. Although lactose is not my best friend in my senior years, I do indulge in a scoop of ice cream now and then, and thanks to Ivy Walker I've discovered that pistachio is my all time favorite! I love it even more than I love chocolate almond or rocky road. Who would have thought that green ice cream could taste that good?!
Integrity - Another one of those "critical issue" characteristics that makes me smile when I find someone who actually has it, because let's face it, it's kind of rare nowadays. Integrity is choosing to do the right thing even if you know no one would ever find out. Papa Bear is a man of unwavering integrity, and I respect him greatly for that!
