A to Z Reasons to Smile - "C"

Each day this month I'll be sharing a list of things corresponding to the alphabet letter of the day that encourage and uplift me, the little things that make smile. I hope you'll join me, and maybe add some of your own in the comments!
"C" Things That Make Me Smile...

Cats - With anyone who knows me, it's no secret that I love cats. We have four furkids, including the two shown above - Sophie the matriarch of our group, and Toby, a shelter kitten we adopted a year ago.  He's now much larger than Sophie and still growing, and aspires to be the boss someday!

Chocolate - My passion, and clearly the way to my heart!  Recently we were in Abilene and spotted a handmade chocolates shop.  Papa Bear laughed, knowing it would be impossible to pass by without making a stop to pick up a few samples... and it was delicious!

Christmas Lights - Especially the multi-colored strings with big old-fashioned bulbs. They bring back the magical memories of childhood Christmases.

Celtic Woman - An amazing Celtic Music group whose performances on Public TV have blown us away.  We are extra-excited to have tickets for their concert at the Noel Wagner Performing Arts Center here in May! If you've never watched one of their concerts... do!  Amazing energy!!

Coloring Books - Have you seen some of the wonderful ones out for adults now? All kinds of wonderful designs that will have you loving your color box as much as you did on the first day of school when you were small!  Coloring isn't just for kids... it's great therapy and relaxation!

Casinos - Yup... love 'em!  Lots of fun, even if you are playing nickel slots!  The potential to walk out with more than you came in with is exciting, as long as you don't get carried away and know when to say when.  It's about the entertainment, not about acquiring wealth.

Clean Sheets - Nothing feels nicer at the end of the day than sinking into soft clean bed sheets.  All the stress and worries of the day fade away as you slip gently away to dreamland. If I had a maid, I would change the bed sheets every day!  Remember how wonderful bed sheets dried outdoors on the clothesline in the sunshine smelled?  Sweet memories!

Coyotes -  Coyotes and the Southwest go together, we see them every now and then here. I recently had three cross the road right in front of my vehicle one evening.  I love their survival skills in an inhospitable environment.  On summer nights we can sometimes hear them howl and their pups yipping in their den - so cute!

Candlelight - Nothing can change the ambience of a room more than switching off those electric lights and replacing them by candlelight.  Be it for romance or meditation, an elegant dinner, or even telling ghost stories, candles are classic.

Compassion - An essential for ourselves and for each other, and yet so very often missing.  When I see someone showing compassion to another, it makes me smile and believe that there is hope yet for our old world.

  1. I have to say, you are the first person I've ever heard say that she likes coyotes.

Back at Thanksgivinh, my dad sat my oldest and me down and made us watch the Celtic Women. He loves watching them. Has all of their shows recorded. For Christmas, we gave him tickets to see their concert. The show was in March, and when it was over, my stepmom wrote to tell me my dad cried through the entire thing. I don't know why I felt the need to tell you that. :)

  2. Very wonderful C's. Somehow I knew cats would be number one.

  3. Speaking of clean sheets, I would add that they have to be hung up outside in the wind and sunshine as they are drying, so they have that unbelievable aroma when you climb in! Have a wonderful weekend. Josie

  6. Your cats are adorable. Today in my yoga class someone described how they were going to buy a dark chocolate Easter bunny, bite off the ears and fill it with red wine. Sounds like a treat to me. I color in my Mandala book whenever I can. It is very theraputic. C is for all the stuff we have in COMMON. Happy Easter!
