Plain Jane

Plain Jane lived her young life in a world of  beige and grey.  She was a shy, nondescript girl from a family of little means.  There wasn't money for new clothes or pretty things;  she wore mostly hand-me-downs, and kept herself out of the way.  But hidden beneath that drab exterior was a bright mind and thirst for learning, and when Plain Jane graduated she won a full-ride scholarship to a big city college far away.  Folks in the small town where she grew up expected her to be back home within a few months, unable to get used to city life... but they were wrong.  In the company of new friends at her college dorm, Plain Jane's life began to blossom -  she smiled more, talked more, and laughed a whole lot more.  She  discovered the fun of make-up, hair coloring, and shopping for clothes.  Her family knew the transformation was complete when she came home for Christmas with a whole collection of brightly colored fuzzy socks.  Even her mama had to smile.  Plain Jane was gone forever, and it was clear that this new girl who had replaced her was going to be a bright and shining star!

  1. Love the socks...I'm assuming that they are yours. How fun to think of the transformation of Plain Jane at college. Reminds me of "Sabrina". Fun movie.

  2. This is a heart-warming story.

I think I've lived in a world of beige, grey, brown, and navy blue, most of my life. :-)

  7. Are those your actual socks, Josie? They're awesome.
I love the idea that Jane is all business on the exterior, but has a fun and colorful side to her underneath.

    Plane Jane to sophistication :)
Exterior looks may have changed, but she's still the nice girl at heart!

  9. Now those fuzzy socks are my kind of "shoes". Plain Jane peeps can surprise us if we let them go and be who they really are.

  10. I used to have very similar socks but they had toes in them and I was so so proud! I love that Plain Jane got out and found rainbow socks.
