Let's Pretend

Let's pretend it never happened,
travel back in time before it all got said.

Let's pretend the tears were only raindrops,
growing roses in the flowerbed.

What's the point in us reliving sorrows,
recalling words that cut until we bled?

Let's pretend it never happened,
let's remember that we loved instead.

I cannot even tell you how many times I said or heard the above.

    1. The sentiment is part of my "let it go" philosophy, Brenda, but the reality beneath is always bittersweet. Your contributions are always awesome! I'll be coming around to read them when I get off work

    1. Thank you Joseph, it pleases me that you liked it! I am not a good poet by any means, but this one just wanted to come out. I think what it says is true, sometimes it's better to forget the bad things and remember what was good.

    1. It surely wouldn't get an A in composition, Mimi, poetry is not my forte. But the lines just seemed to fit so well with what I was feeling at the time, that yes, we can pretend (or at least ignore) those bad things that have happened and choose to remember the good times instead.

    1. Thank you Zoe! I agree, when we decide to let go of the pain, to set those hurtful memories aside, that we can began to heal. Forgiveness is a blessing, it comes easier with age and time.

  7. What a touching sentiment Josie in this excellent poem. How important it is to get love to push aside all the bad memories in life as we move on.

    1. Thank you Old Egg! Life is so much nicer if we let go of the negative emotions from the past. I'm not saying that we forget all, I'm just saying to let the anger/hurt/resentment go and focus on what you shared that was good. I am thankful for every person that has come into my life, even if it wasn't always a nurturing relationship. I've learned, and I've grown because of them!

  8. The last line has made me think of this: "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. "

  10. Sometimes letting go is all there is. However, if we take what we experience in each relationship, we can learn from it. In turn, we are stronger. That strength can be applied to future relationships. Love is never wasted.

    1. That's true, Annie, there is no magic undo button, but we can learn from what went wrong and attempt to do better in the next relationship. I agree with you about love never being wasted, it is something we can give freely, and have a limitless supply.
