Ten Things of Thankful - August 10th

I'm participating in Ten Things of Thankful, a blog hop that asks us to "focus on the good things going on in your life by listing ten things you are thankful for today..."

1) I am thankful for the wonderful portable charger pictured above that my husband found for my iPhone on Amazon. My phone tends to run out of juice by the end of day, and also did so on my last airplane trip. While I have chargers that can be plugged into outlets or USB ports, this little beauty has the ability to charge my phone to 80% power in just a few minutes. Now it's always in my purse and I never have to worry about running out of power in an emergency.  Once depleted, it can be easily recharged by plugging it into an outlet with my phone's outlet jack. What a wonderful invention for folks who might over-indulge in data use on their smart phones just a wee bit! :-)

2) I am so thankful that Papa Bear is off work for the next three days.  He works Monday thru Saturday each week, and then gets one three-day weekend a month. He stands on his feet all day at work, so at 60 years old he is really tired by the end of the week. We both look forward to his long weekend as a time to relax together and to catch up on a few house projects, and then he has Monday all to himself while I'm at work, which is nice for him too.

3) I am thankful for my alone times on Saturdays when Papa Bear is at work, I cherish that quiet writing time. When he is home, we spend almost all of our time together, because we want to, that's what best friends do!  We also respect each other's need for a little down time of their own.

4) I am thankful that doctors were finally able to get the level of pain under control for my friend who has terminal cancer. He had a better week, some moments of smiles and laughter, visits with old friends, and even a few appearances online. This is what we want for him, and for his wife too... kinder, gentler days as they come to terms with the future.

5) I am thankful for the fun of texting with my son tonight when my daughter suddenly popped up in a text, and then a couple minutes later my husband (who is  at a lodge function) pops up too! Wow, I'm texting with all three of the people I love best in the whole world at one time... and feeling very blessed!

6) I am thankful that Papa Bear's youngest daughter checked in with him this week.  She tends to lose contact with us every now and then as she sorts out issues in her life, and as any parent knows, we worry about our kids!  I know it did his heart good to hear from her!

7) I am so thankful that my friend Carrie was able to have her laptop repaired and all her data saved after it took an unplanned bath in the rain.  We all know how scary it is when our electronics malfunction!  I could feel her relief when it was returned to her from the computer tech safe and sound.

8) I am thankful for the wonderful smell and feel of soft clean bed sheets. If I had maid service I would have the sheets changed every single day just for the luxury of sinking into them at night!

9) I am thankful for the ever increasing number of over-fifty bloggers I am meeting these days. When I started blogging I felt like the ancient one amidst a bunch of youngsters.  Now I blog with friends from eighteen years of age to seventy, and I love every one of you dearly! All those different perspectives and varied life experiences keeps it interesting and makes sharing here a wonderful experience! It's funny how age just doesn't seem to matter all that much in the blogsphere, we all share a passion for writing and communication!

10) To close on a sweet note, I am thankful that the donut shop added a new flavor of filling to their list of choices for filled donuts...  dulce de leche, which is in essence caramelized sweetened milk, and a traditional flavor of the Hispanic culture prevalent here.  We sampled them for the first time today, having designated Fridays as treat day, and pronounce them delicious!

Life IS sweet my friends, treasure the opportunities to make good memories and use those memories to boost your spirits during the hard times. Wishing all of you an awesome weekend and a week ahead with blessings too many to count!

  1. Josie you are so sweet and I love all your thankful things - I can't even pick my favorite. I didn't know about the battery for the Iphone. And I am glad your friend's pain is managed. Love, sandie

    1. Thank you Sandie! Those little chargers are truly amazing, and very inexpensive too! I used to run around finding spots to plug in my phone for a quick fix and it never charged it fast enough. This is awesome, always ready to give me a boost!

I am so very thankful for my friend's week too, in fact I just learned that he was honored with a new annual award in his name at their County Fair last night, in recognition of the many years of hard work he did to help support the 4-H kids and their animals at the show. I know as he laid there in his hospital bed, his huge heart glowed with pride! It is an honor well-deserved and I'm glad they did it now instead of later!

  2. I love your thankful posts. I probably should do this too as I'm thankful for so many things.

We are on our boat this weekend and just enjoying staying in our slip. I've have good books to read too. Love these weekends. Tomorrow we are going to Encinal YC for lunch with friends. It's in the bay area and it's always a treat.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hugs from sunny California. :)

  3. Ahhhh. I see a pattern here. You forgot someone!! YOU! Of course you can't be thankful for yourself, I suppose. So I'll do it for you.

We are ALL (especially Papa Bear) thankful for YOU.

  5. Josie this is a beautiful list. You've managed to weave the technological very neatly into the Things Of The Heart - the multi-way text conversation sounds delicious. What a joy to be part of.

I'm glad that you and Papa Bear are going to get a bit more time together. That's a lot of hard work that he does, and I bet the time off is really welcomed. I hope that it's massively relaxing and re-charging for him.

I'm glad to hear that your friend's pain is being managed better. That's such a vital thing to have under control. I pray that it continues to go well.

And lastly, the wonderful connections of the Blogosphere. I adore them. Age is rarely a factor and I feel as 'at home' talking to bloggers who claim to be old enough to be my Mom, as to those younger than me. And it's so much fun to all be in this together.

Life, and your list, are sweet :) Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank You Lizzi! It is because of you that we all have the opportunity to participate in this weekly "blessings fest", and it's such a great way to wrap up each week! I love you for providing us the avenue or sharing and caring, and I'm glad that you found good things on my list! I know it's always kind of all over the place, folks who know me would tell you that's exactly how I am... a bit scattered... maybe like confetti! :-))

    2. But confetti brings beauty and joy to life. And gets stuck in places where you find it months later, and smile, remembering the celebration.

I love our blessingsfest that we're building together. It has a really special 'feel' to it. I love being part of it.

    3. I agree Lizzi, confetti is bright, fun stuff, though it can be a bit messy at times! :-) I think blessingsfest is the best word for it, Lizzi! I'm sure you've noticed in comments on so many blogs how much folks are enjoying this blog hop. It is the interaction that is amazing, the best group I've ever seen and I really love seeing all the comments coming in! Truly this was a divinely inspired undertaking... angels walk among us! :-)

  6. What a lovely list - and #1 has given me the perfect gift to get for my daughter, who plane-hops all over the world, and is always running out of juice with her smartphone :)

I, too adore the fact that the internet gives us so many opportunities to become friends with people of all ages - I'm sure it keeps us younger! :)

Yes, interacting with younger writers keeps me from getting old and stale! I love the wonderful array of folks sharing here!

  8. Josie...nice list! Im so glad your friends pain is under control better. It will add so much to quality of life at a time like this. On the bloggers over 50 note...I am turning 50 this week and if you had told me when I started blogging two years ago that I would enjoy it this much I would have said you were crazy...Its been great meeting people and participating in fun things...

    1. I felt a tremendous relief for both my friend and his wife this week Zoe, it is so hard to endure intense pain for days and days. He is much more comfortable now, and that's a real blessing.

You are so right about blogging, I had no idea the role it would come to play in my life and that I would connect with people from all over on real levels of friendship and understanding. I love it!

    1. LOL Clark, you are so right, we learn here, we laugh, we cry together, we encourage each other... and the love flows and grows! I am so very pleased with all the interaction taking place with this blog hop, it makes it really a fun thing to do!!

Yes, I absolutely agree, it is the people, not the things, in our lives that really matter, that make life good!

I'm delighted that you like to do creative writing, I hope we'll see you joining in at Two Shoes Tuesday and Six Sentence Stories!

  12. 1. The only thing I really dislike about my iphone is the way it sucks up battery. Thinking I need to look into that charger!

    8. Yesssss!

    9. I'm old.

    10. And I love doughnuts.

    1. You would never be without this little power pack again, Dyanne, and the price is very reasonable, under $25! LOL at your response to #9, I'm old too! :-) Donuts, Mmmm! I miss my grandmother's homemade donut balls that were lightly lemon flavored. Wonderful!!

  13. I especially love the first one. Just what I need. My phone runs out every day around 7 p.m. and I don't use it THAT much.

A lot of your thankfulness is for other's needs. Very much like you.

    1. You really would love having one, Maria! I know it's a funny thing to be thankful for, but it was annoying to me to always be looking for a place to plug in at the end of day, or worse yet at the airport. Now I don't have to watch the power level, because I know I've got a back up supply that will last me 'til bedtime for sure! It is peace of mind.

As is true in life, I find that I am most happy when those I care about are blessed. Life is about relationships, far more than it is about what comes my way.

  14. I always love your lists, Josie...so genuine and from the heart.

While I appreciate all the listed items, I can especially relate to clean sheets...there is something absolutely splendid about getting into bed when the sheets are new and fresh.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you very much! Yes, fresh sheets on the bed feel just heavenly, I swear I sleep more peacefully because I feel relaxed when getting into bed. It's just not that hard to do them up often either, I need to get another set so I can switch them out too! I love the high count cotton, so very soft!

  15. I so agree with number nine. I love and am surprised at all the support from bloggers from every part of the blogosphere that I have met from the fashionistas, the cooks, the poets and writers, the photographers, moms and dads. I never knew there was such a rich place to find new friends. I so enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for sharing.

    1. That is truly the most wonderful part of blogging, Mary, the folks from all walks of life that you make along the way. People you never would have encountered in life that now have become good friends! It amazes my husband when I go down my list and tell him a little bit about each person, where they live, what they do, etc. If it wasn't for the wonderful interaction, we would all be privately journaling instead. We blog because we love to write, we stay because we love to meet and encourage each other!

  16. You have a lovely list--some serious, bittersweet thanks, joyful thanks, and "little things" thanks.

I agree with #8, and #10 sounds delicious!
