An Anniversary to Remember

When Jill and Gary got married they decided to celebrate their anniversary each year by taking a trip to someplace new.  They spent the first year at a cabin in the mountains, and the second at a cottage by the shore, followed by a trip to Las Vegas, and one to the Redwood Forrest.  Their fifth anniversary trip was going to be something special, an Alaskan cruise, and Jill had plans to make the last night one that Gary would always remember.  She paid a visit to the ship's gift store earlier that day, and as the full moon rose high into the sky, she handed a small box to Gary.  He opened it to find a pair of hand-carved whales just like the ones they had watched swimming off the bow. Nestled between them was a tiny whale calf with a small card tucked along side on which Jill had written, "Happy Anniversary Darling... You're going to be a Daddy!"

    1. Thank you Sandee! I wanted to make the ending a little more subtle but then I thought readers would be guessing that she was telling him she wanted to start a family rather than that she was pregnant.

    1. Thanks Zoe! I'm just getting my feet wet in fiction, too, and I've found out that it's easier and much more fun that I ever believed. As kids we all told stories, then somehow we started to think we were too old for that... nonsense!!
