Ten Things of Thankful... A Wonderful New Blog Hop!

Today I'm joining up with the new Ten Things of Thankful blog hop which asks us to "focus on the good things going on in your life by listing ten things you are thankful for today".
1.  I am thankful for this wonderful new blog hop as a weekly place to count and share my blessings. I did this for the 26 days of the A-Z Blogging Challenge and can attest to the fact that it did wonders in helping me focus on the positive and finding reasons big and small to smile!
2.  I am so very thankful for my beloved Papa Bear who is celebrating his 60th birthday today! He is my knight in shining armor, he is the light of my life.  In my case, God saved the very best for last! :-)
3.  I am thankful for having two four day work-weeks in a row!  I love working only four days and wish I could do it always.  We were off for Memorial Day and then both took today off to begin a long weekend.  Having one less day of work made the week seem to go by so fast. That might also be because I had something fun to look forward to!
4.  I am thankful for getting to spend these three days at Ft. Davis at the foothills of the Davis Mountains in Texas with Papa Bear.  It was his choice of how to spend his birthday and it's beautiful here!
5. I am thankful for the wonderful Mexican food we had today for lunch at a place in Balmorhea, and for the delicious meal we had for dinner tonight at a small but elegant bistro in Ft. Davis. We love getting to eat in new places. In both cases the food was far above average and we loved it! We finished the evening off with the Italian Crème Cake birthday cake I brought along packed in an ice chest. :-)
6. I am thankful for the wonderfully cooler weather here in Ft. Davis.  It reached 109 one day last week in Odessa where we work, and 106 the following day.  It was miserable.  It is much cooler here in the higher elevation.  This evening we sat outside in the little rocking chairs on the patio and loved the cool 70 degree gentle breeze as the sun set.
7. I am thankful for all of our children, mine and John's, that love us and remember us on our birthdays.  He's had a host of Facebook messages, texts and phone calls today, and enjoyed every one of  them!
8. I am thankful for the many things Papa Bear and I have in common, we enjoy going the same places, and doing the same things.  This evening we drove around looking at the old and historic buildings here, delighting in each find and taking photos  Earlier we shared the roadway with a doe who was grazing in a yard with a couple of companions in the small town.  That's her pictured above.
9. I am thankful for the beauty of God's handiwork. I have learned over the years that each place has a beauty of it's own, be it the lakes and prairie that I grew up with, waves lapping at the ocean shore, the tree-filled squares of Savannah, or the stark beauty of the West here in Texas.  Someday we want to experience Alaska too!
10. I am thankful for Wi-Fi, as we sit here relaxing, Papa Bear reading his e-book on his tablet and me updating my Facebook and blog from the comfort of our little cottage at the foot of the mountains. I can leave home and take all my friends along with me.  I can share photographs instantly. I can have a book at my fingertips and never lose my place.  I can make friends from all over the world and send them greeting with the touch of a button on a keyboard that's connected to the Internet with nothing but signals that pass mysteriously thru the air!

Ten Things of Thankful
Come and share your blessings with us!

  1. Josie, your love of Papa Bear is touching. You two are so in synch, and I can't help but think of the love I have for Lex when I read you. It's great to be with your best friend as your lover.

Thankfulness, mindfulness, and grace. These qualities shine in this meme. Amy

  2. These are a beautiful Ten Things of Thankful - I believe I've heard from other sources about your A-Z of thankful and how great it was. Thank you for joining in :)

Your description of your house, the deer, sitting and chilling out in the evening sound absolutely delicious (not to mention the food - I love being able to try something new at a restaurant which I'd otherwise not have in the course of Life).

And as for your #10 - we are truly blessed by the ability technology gives us to take our friends with us, to connect with people we'd never normally meet, and make new friends across distances. This is something I am becoming increasingly awestruck by.

  3. Sounds like a glorious trip you are having. Good food, good weather, and good company. It is obvious you and Papa Bear love each other dearly. I could read your lists all day long.

Thank you for being so supportive of our blog hop and for linking-up, even while on vacation. This here internet isn't all bad, is it?

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

  4. totally agree with:
    a) the technology thing (connectedness everywhere!)
    2) the blog hop (both this one and others) I have set a limited number to participate in, my having only a limited number of words in my head, it seems. But the idea of 'getting out' and meeting people I would not have had the opportunity to read is v cool.
So, when the Considerer asked if I would like to join y'all on this Thank hop, I totally said yes*.

(* not without a minute of 'oh man! how the hell does a person co-host one of these things... but everyone (other co-hosts have been totally cool.)

  5. What a great blog hop! I'd love to participate in this one. :)

It sounds like you're having a wonderful time. Enjoy!

  6. Wonderful list!! I am a new follower from the Things of Thankful link up. :)

You are one of the most thankful persons I know. I like that.

Have a fabulous weekend honey. Big hugs. ☺

  8. #10 - I never thought I would "cross over" and get an e-reader, but my family got me one for Mother's Day and I do like it. And you're right, the best part is not losing your place in your book! I am so bad about falling asleep and dropping my book, then having to find the page I was on. At least when I drop my Nook on my chest, I don't lose my place!

    p.s. Love your furry children.

  9. Thank you so much for sharing your list...but WHY did you have to mention Mexican food?!? Now that you've got that stuck in my head anything I would make for dinner tonight will now pale in comparison! LOL Hope you enjoy the rest of your week-end!

  10. Hi, great list. Nice to meet you. I am addicted to blogging and the Internet now. My daughter can't get own her computer because I use it all the time now. P)

  11. Great post! I totally agree on your no. 10, it is really a blessing nowadays! Thank you so much for linking up with us!

  12. Such a wonderful list of things to be thankful for. If everyone tried to remember all the good things and be thankful for them the world would be a wonderful place :)

  13. Perfect list! MMM to Mexican food. One of my favorites and it's just not the same on the east coast as it is in Colorado. I miss Mexican food. Happy 60th to Pappa Bear!

  14. I am happy with you in your good luck, and your pleasure in the life you're living.

  15. You have a wonderful TEN, Josie. We've only been to Ft. Davis once and we went on to Big Bend National Park to stay and spent a couple of nights at at Lajitas (Texas). Did you know that the Lajitas mayor, A BEER DRINKING GOAT, died a while back. I doubt they have replaced him.

Happy (late) Birthdy to P. Bear!!!

Yes, Texas does have the most wonderful Mexican food. We will miss that when we visit our London daughter, Karen, and the kids and SIL. There just isn't any. But I make up for that by eating gobs of fish and chips.

I am glad too, that you have an older semi-co-worker, the pt'er, for you to chum and confide with at your work.

    1. Several years ago I stole/borrowed/lifted the Happy Birthday song from Sandee.
