Blogging From A to Z... "I"

An Attitude of Gratitude
I AM THANKFUL...

1)  For my two incredible children - Inshallah and Ian...  I am in awe of the amazing people they've grown up to be!

2)  For  those who live their lives with integrity, such as my husband and my friend Annie.  Integrity seems to be a rather rare attribute these days, especially in the worlds of business and politics.  To me, having integrity means that walk your talk, and always choose to do the right thing, even if no one will ever find out.

3)  For the Internet!  Need I say more?  It has radically changed our lives, giving us the ability to learn about anything and everything, shop from the comfort of our chairs, and connect with wonderful people from all around the world.  The Internet is probably the thing it would be hardest for me to give up.

4) For iced tea... I love it, I live on it.  It keeps me going during long work days, and refreshes me when it's hot.  Best of all is Southern Style iced tea that is sweetened, it could easily become an addiction.

5) For inkSeriously, think about it... without ink all the great poetry and classics would never have been written, diaries would not have been kept, love letters would not have been sent, history could not have been recorded.

6) For my iPhone.  This little powerhouse ranks right up there with Internet when it comes to things I would never want to live without.  I often think about how my mom would have loved the unlimited talk and texting, as Dad routinely limited her phone visits with us to seven minutes, which he timed! She would have loved instant photo sharing too!  I love the ability to stay in contact with my family and friends, knowing that we can find each other anytime anywhere.

7) For independence, for God giving me the courage to walk away from my past and start a new chapter of my life standing on my own two feet!

8) For Tybee Island off the coast of Georgia where I am to visit very soon... I can't wait to sink my toes in the sand and watch the waves come in! :-)

9) For ice cream, is there anyone who doesn't love it?  I think that Papa Bear would be very happy if he could eat ice cream every day!  I like lots of different kinds, but my very favorite flavor is Ben and Jerry's "Cherry Garcia"... it's wonderful!

10) For people who inspire me by their words and their actions, who motivate me to be the very best I can be!

    1. I love both of those words too, Judygirl! Everyone needs to be able to function on their own because we often find that we must at some point in life. Integrity is something I value greatly, and that's the kind of people I seek for relationships. Trust is important to me, and I want to associate with people who are as they represent themselves to be.

    1. When I first wrote down "ink" I was thinking just basic function, like taking notes... then I began to realize what all ink has been used for... wow, that would take a real bite out of life and history if we didn't have anything to use for ink! And now, if we run out of ink for our printers it feels like a crisis until we get them replaced! :-)

    1. I'm glad you like my lists, Lucy! I am having a great time doing them, it's proving to be a very positive experience. I am indeed so very excited about our upcoming vacation, it was a gift to me from a wonderful friend who won it in a blog contest hosted by another wonderful friend - that just makes it all the more special because it's something we certainly couldn't afford to do otherwise!

  4. I love how you are doing these posts and this is the second time I've heard about ice cream this morning. I love two desserts, pumpkin pie (I only have this during the holidays) and ice cream. I could eat ice cream every single day. I don't, but I could.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    1. You sounds just like Papa Bear, Sandee, there was a time in his life when he did eat a big bowl of icecream every night. Needless to say, that expanded his waistline a bit so he stopped, now we enjoy a dish of icecream every now and then. I love pumpkin pie too, but then there really isn't any kind of sweet or desert I don't like, if it's chocolate, so much the better! :-)

  5. I love your list of i words!
This is the third time I've read about ice cream today. If this keeps up I may need to run to the store for a tasty treat. :)

    1. Thanks Laura! Yes, I've been seeing a lot of ice-cream too, that must be the first "I-word" that comes to mind for many folks, and we'll all be wanting some tonight! :-)

  7. So sweet. For me I agree with iced tea, ice cream, integrity (my word today). I also want to add for me, insurance for paying for my daughter's second surgery while trying to fix her hearing, icicles for taking sunlight and making it dance throughout the winter.

    1. Oh Lord yes, insurance! I've lived without it at times and it is so scary. We grumble about the cost but it is nothing compared to the bills without it. I'm glad you had it when you needed it, it helps! And I too love icicles, being raised in the land of long, cold winters. They are sooo pretty! :-)

    1. Hi Lena! It is funny how we take for granted some of the basic things we use every day. At a later point I might do a post on that, the things we use that we never really stop to consider. I am looking at the drinking straw in my cup of iced tea this morning and thinking "that's a pretty cool device"! :-)

  9. I'm happy summer is coming because Southern sweet iced tea and ice cream. Not that I need an excuse but I feel less guilty about indulging when it's hot outside. I thought my husband was crazy when he came home with his first iPhone. I almost threw the thing into the lake - I couldn't type on it. Now, I don't remember how I got along without it. Great post!

    1. This made me laugh Julie, because I totally understand. Why my daughter showed us her iPhone and all the things it could do, we both were certain it was something we didn't want and had no use for. We got ours about a year later when our contract renewed, and neither one of us would give them up now. Amazing all the tricks those things can do, mine is always within arms reach. :-)

    1. Hi J. Lenni! Ink is awesome! Charcoal drawing on cave walls had its limitations! I would guess the earliest inks stemmed from a desire to do something more refined. :-)
