What's Your Message?

It's Saturday again, and I do love my Saturdays!  Here's what I'm pondering today for Six Word Saturday...

What does your t-shirt slogan say?

Everywhere you look you'll see someone wearing a t-shirt that bears a slogan. Some are serious and some are funny.  Others are sarcastic, and some are downright crude.  I never cease to be amazed at the messages people choose to share with the world.

My ex loved slogan t-shirts, and he had many. Some were clever, some related to his love of rock music and playing drums, others were obscene and I refused to go out with him when he wore them. Children, and adults with a sense of decency, don't need to be randomly exposed to that.

Standing in line at at the store this week, two t-shirts caught my eye.  One, on a middle-aged, nondescript woman said "I understand I just don't care."  Hmmm, not really very impressive.  I am passionate about caring... to my way of thinking not caring is nothing to proclaim to the world with pride.  Given, she could be referring to not caring about swirling drama or someone who feeds on attention, but the message I got was that she just didn't give a darn.  Pretty sad.

The other was on a young man.  It said   "Don't let your fears be bigger than your faith."  That's a good one!  It tells me this guy has his head on straight and knows what's important. I would expect that if he believes what his shirt says, he'll be able to cope with what life throws his way.

I like t-shirts with a good message, I enjoy the humorous ones that make me smile, and I shake my head at those that seem like misguided statements, or are simply vulgar.  It's interesting to see if the t-shirt slogan seems to fit the person wearing it, or if perhaps it might have been a loaner or a hand-me-down.  Sometimes the t-shirt itself is a message, so undersized for it's occupant that one fears for the durability of seams!

Do you wear slogan t-shirts?  If so, do you give thought to what message they convey?  Does it reflect who you really are, or was it just in your favorite color?  Is it a tribute to your favorite band, or a likeness of a familiar green leaf?  Does it have something important to say?

If you could design the perfect slogan t-shirt that would tell us something about you, what would yours say?

  1. I would simply have my writing name - "SheilaScribbles", but I am not much of a t-shirt wearer. I like seeing clever shirts, or school shirts. I'm not much on sarcasm or definitely not vulgarity. My middle son (16) cares very much what his shirts say and is very particular. My oldest son (19) doesn't wear slogans, but enjoys a good superhero shirt.

    1. I enjoy the clever ones too, Joanne, anthing that makes others smile is great, with the exception of sarcasm, I have no time or place for that in my life, it doesn't amuse me.

  3. Nice post, Josie ~~ Perfect shirt find for a teenager. They know everything. :)

Mine would say, "My daughter went to Venice and brought me back this shirt." Of course I wouldn't wear it for two reasons: 1. it is a put-down saying that I didn't get to go; and 2. I am not allowed to wear shirts without a collar while golfing.

    1. I agree about that one in the picture being perfect for a teen, Jim! LOL on wearing the shirt your daughter brought you. I have a few of those souvenier shirts too... my favorite being from the Sturgis Rally!

  4. I'm always dismayed when I see mean-spirited Ts. There are certainly plently of them around. I don't mind so much when the shirt says soemthing egoistic about its wearer, as long as it avoids being negative about others.

The other day I saw one that was a nice play on the horrible Ts that say "I'm with stupid" and have an arrow pointing to the side. It read "I'm with awesome" and had an arrow pointed toward its neckline.

    1. I so agree, Ron. Why on earth would anyone want to be seen with a person bearing that message? Now the last one you mentioned, that's clever and would definitely get my thumbs up vote!

  5. I buy those t-shirts for grandkids sometimes...but they always say something cute. I don't wear them myself. But if I did, mine might say. ~I have the best husband in the world!~

    Happy Saturday!

    1. Ah yes, it does Karen! Some days it is probably a good thing that I don't have many slogan t-shirts or mine might say "Go away leave me alone!" Most days mine would be about faith, hope and love... I believe in the power of those words!

  7. Bill's T-shirt says, "If a man speaks in the desert where no one can hear him, is he still wrong?"
*LOL* Okay, so I got it for him! He still likes it and has had a lot of fun comments, from couples usually. Recently, a young girl truck stop cashier said, "I don't get it." The older woman cashier said, "I've been married 30 years. I do." Bill laughed & said, "We've been married 31. Thanks!"
The older woman turned to the girl and said, "Honey, when you are older you will get it." Bill laughed and agreed. You have to have a sense of humour...especially if you want to stay married. (P.S. I like sarcasm...if it is in fun, and doesn't hurt anyone.)

    1. That's a great one, Annie, something most married folks could relate to, and sure to get smiles! To me this is more wit than sarcasm, John would get a kick out of it too. :-)

  8. The only T-shirts I wear that have stuff on them is from Concerts and our concert going is ALL Christian bands now so they have some great slogans on them Like Newsboys "Beautiful You" I love my Matthew West "Family Tree" shirt it has a tree with hearts hanging from it so cute. When I am in an annoyed mood I can ALMOST get the sarcastic slogans. happy Saturday to you.

    1. Hi Janice! Those t-shirts sound like keepers! At times when I am annoyed with people I can relate to the ones that have snarky remarks about the intelligence level of humankind, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with actually wearing that as "my sign", even if I secretly might tend to agree, at least for the moment! ;-)

  9. I have tons of t-shirts, music, countries, sayings, and on and on. One of my favorite ones is "I tried to be good but I got bored" :)

    1. That's a good one, Susie! Mine would probably say something similar.. "I tried being normal, but I failed miserably!"

  10. I did have one which read, "You say bitch like it's a bad thing" but I was never brave enough to wear it.
T-shirts are not really for me anymore, on account of my very large appendages. My favourite one is a Jimi Hendrix Tee, which has since been passed down to Spawn.

An elderly friend had one which said, "If you can't be good in bed, at least be bad." She never wore it again after I explained what it really meant. :D

    1. Too funny Lily, this is why one needs to be sure your tshirt is relaying the right message, and yes t-shirts on the well-endowed definitely accentuate the situation!

  11. Yup, I do! In fact i'm wearing one right now.... I like to wear shirts that make a statement but, i'm careful about the offense ones. If I see a shirt that I think might offend someone I won't wear it. I usually like to get the humorous ones like the one i'm wearing it gets lots of laughs! You can come look at my shirt collection on my blog, it is the one with the airplane! : )
