Manly Monday - 6/21/12

Andrea over at From the Sol, hosts "Manly Monday" each week.  It's a cool way of honoring or promoting any guy you think fills the bill. Check out this week's post on her blog for more details, and then tell us about the Manly Man you admire!

I'm sure it won't surprise you to learn that when I think of "manly" the first name that springs to mind is my beloved husband.   Ok, so "Papa Bear", my pet name for him, may not conjure up the most macho image in your minds, but how about this one.

In a former life, Papa Bear could easily have been a sheriff, bringing law and order to some dusty West Texas town.  He is an imposing, no-nonsense type of guy, and he's all about doing what's right.  Papa Bear's not afraid of anything or anyone.  He's the first to step up when something needs to be taken care of, and he wouldn't hesitate to shoot any bad guys that might threaten his family or the town.  Would he really arrest a sweet little old lady for harboring too many varmints in her house... I'm thinking he just might! :-)

  1. I love this! The picture awesome, too. I love your writing too. When does a book come out?

    1. Thanks Annie! :-) The book is still in my head, if I'd get busy on it, it could be a contender!

  2. So... I just had a thought! Any chance of your manly man making a guest appearance on your blog? It would be fun to have a little hello from him - or maybe you could interview him? Just a thought ;-)

Loved this post and husband sounds like such a good person.

    2. 'm glad you enjoyed it Lady! Papa Bear truly is one of the good guys. There is nothing negative I can say about him... with the exception that he can be a bit of a grizzly bear until he's had his morning coffee, but he's working on that! :-) I'm thinking about your suggestion!

  3. Sheriff Bear! The name alone would keep me in line. :)

    That's a really cool picture. ;)

    1. LOL! The names we come up with here! First we have Ken-inacape, and now we have Sheriff Bear! Too funny! We had the picture taken at a little shop when we were staying in the mountains. Fun! But he would have been much happier holding a real gun (not pointed at me, hopefully)!

  4. Thank you for joining in and I think "Papa Bear" conjures up a very manly image to me (Wouldn't want to meet a Papa Bear in the dark of the night). He seems like a wonderful choice by anyone, but for you to put him out there shows your love, respect and comfort with who he is. Welcome to my meme.

    1. So I should leave you with that image Andrea, and not inform you that it started out as a reference to a giant Beanie Bear! LOL But you are right that one would not want to have an encounter with a papa bear if you are messing with his territory! :-) I enjoy your meme, and I agree with the other nominees quite often.

  5. I have been missin' ya and came on over to check on you and what a sweet post! I'd say Papa Bear would fit in quite well in the dusty Texas fields, wrangling both steer and bad guys! :) Neat idea for Manly Monday!

    1. Thanks Carrie! Life has gotten in the way of blogging for the past couple days and I haven't had time to do much so thought I'd throw up a fun, light post for folks to enjoy. I get a kick out of that photo because he doesn't look too intimidating with that smile on his face! :-) Yes, he really would fit just as well into any Western movie, I love it on the ocassions when he wears his own cowboy hat, mainly for the annual rodeo here, and when he is serving as the Master of his Masonic Lodge.

  6. The two of you look like you were made for each other! Both of you have that look, that would instantly make others feel at ease.

I'm with Lady in Red on this one, it would be great if Papa Bear made a guest appearance.

    1. We were, Lily, I honestly believe that we were meant to be togther for this stage of our lives! Two very imperfect people in a nearly perfect relationship, it boggles my mind!

Watch for a surprise announcement regarding Papa Bear early tomorrow morning, I think you'll like it! :-))
