Commenting on the Comments

Many thanks to my good friend Ranting Monkey for helping this technology-challenged old lady learn how to convert my commenting format so that it is now possible to reply directly below each comment, rather than at the end of them all.  This is a relatively new option and I like it so much better because it allows for interaction and further dialog between the blogger and commenter.

For those of you who use Blogger, it's really very simple... go to settings and change the commenting option from "pop-up" to "embedded".   I'd noticed that option before, but assumed embedded meant that all the comments would show up on the home page of my blog along with their respective posts. They don't, it still just shows a total comment count, but when you go to the page for a specific post, the comments/responses all show up nicely. Loving it!!

(And you all thought this was going to be something profoud, didn't you?! :-))

  1. Lol, well I appreciate him showing you too - because it was so much fun to receive such long and specific feedback to my feedback!

    1. See, it is much less clumsy, isn't it Bozo? Before I would have to go back and forth, adding a comment at the end to each poster and it proved time consuming so I often didn't get replies done. This way I can respond right where you commented, and anyone else can put there two sense into your comment as well. Great improvement from Blogger!

    2. The only problem is that I am already prone to writing really long comments (not unlike my really long posts), so I will probably take up too much space on folk's blog posts and get put on their "Troll List" as one recent blogger referred to people who blog in the comments section. Oh well, guess I won't be commenting more at his place. I wish I was concise in my thoughts and writing, but alas it is not to be... and I don't really give a damn! If you know me well, you also know I talk too much once I get to know you... a good conversation can go on for hours! That's why I stay off the telephone! :-)

    4. Thanks L! I sometimes feel bad when I realize I've written a damn book on somebody's blog when I really didn't mean to hog space, I just write what's on my mind and well, that pretty much explains the problem! LOL Don't worry, I'll keep commenting 'til you kick me off the page! I love good writing, interesting real-life stuff and your blog certainly is that!!

  2. While I'm at it... another good blogging hint - keep a list of blog topic ideas handy on your cellphone, since it's probably always with you like mine is. I keep one in my Iphone Notes app and add things to it all the time. I will never run out of things to write about, and I hope to live 'til I've done them all! Seriously though, I have to be in the right mood for any topic, so having a convenient list helps me find one I want to expound on. Things come to mind all day long "that would be good to blog about", but I am a senile old lady, so I forget the idea about two minutes later if I don't add it to my list! :-)

    1. I use an unpublished post here on blogger for that. Though it was online once for about 10 seconds when I hit publish instead of save, it still works out well for me. When I need a topic, I just head to that post and pull one out.

      And you're welcome!

    2. I've accidentally published a couple draft posts in the past that were never meant for public consumption, so I'm mighty careful about what I leave in draft form now, but it's a good idea to store blog ideas that way!

    3. I've tried to keep a running list in the draft section but it always gets buried and I forget about them. Now I keep a running list in a Word document.

I've published unfinished stuff before too LOL

    4. Yes, I used to bury my draft list too. I need something I can get to when I'm out and about cuz that's when my best ideas come, so my phone messages works great for me. If I am breathing my Iphone is within two feet distance! :-) (Can we say addicted much?)

  3. I've gotten a question for you - are you on "free" blogger or did you purchase a domain name?

    1. I started out with a free Blogger blog, bought the domain name this year when they offered for I think like $5.95 a year or something like that. Blogger automatically transfers to that new address, so folks can find me at www.josie2shoes.com :-)
