Home Alone

Hi Folks! I'm up and awake, and loving the weekend! It's time for Six Word Saturday, and here's what I have to say about my day...

Papa Bear Gone Fishin' - Home Alone!

My beloved Papa Bear has taken some of well-earned and much-needed vacation time, and as soon as he gets off work at 3 o'clock today he'll be headed down the road for a week of fishing at a lake that's about 250 miles away.  He's staying in a big camper with one of his lodge brothers who lost his wife suddenly just a few months back. This is an experience Papa Bear knows first-hand, having lost his 2nd wife of 26 years suddenly to an aneurysm. It is hard to get over the shock and back into the business of living, so I know the time they spend trying to catch the big ones will be fun and great therapy too!

Papa Bear loves to fish, and hasn't had a chance to do that hardly at all in the past four years, since we don't have a lake or river in close proximity - we live in the dry, dry Southwest, remember?  He has been so excited planning this trip, and happily packed everything into his truck last night so that he could leave straight away after work today. It was hard telling him goodbye this morning, I will miss him so very much, especially at nights. I don't sleep well when he isn't beside me, he makes me feel safe and secure. I am so thankful for the magic of cellphones, we will be in touch often and hopefully he'll have some wonderful pictures of scenery and fishies to share!

So now comes the burning question... what will I do while he's away? Well, that's really no problem for me, I honestly enjoy my time alone - the daytime and evenings that is, anyway. I have many housecleaning, arranging projects that I should do - that need to be done - and maybe I'll tackle a couple of those this weekend.  But first on tap is a quick shower, a trip to the post office, and then off to the nearby city for a bit of shopping, I need a few new things to wear for Spring. Don't worry, not at Papa Bear's expense - I have that wonderful gift card my son gave my for my birthday, remember?!

With no real cooking or other major outings planned, you can bet I'll be doing a bit more blogging (sorry, bear with me - it's an addiction), and I have a wonderful new item I purchased and want to try out today - it's for my cats, I'll be back later to tell you all about that, it's going to make you smile (and probably roll your eyes), I promise!

Wishing everyone a great weekend, I wish everyday could be Saturday! I wonder what it would be like to be the master of your days.  Pray for Papa Bear's week, that he has  a wonderful time, and returns home safely. The house is going to be far too quiet with him away.  Oh darn, I already  miss him and he hasn't even left town yet... that's love!

  2. I'm selfishly happy that we'll get a few more posts this week ;-) but of course hope the time goes by quickly for you. I'm sure that before you know it your Papa Bear will be back by your side and all will be well. Lovely how much you miss him.

Also, I would love to hear what you end up buying with that gift card! Have a nice day :)

    1. Thank you Superwoman! I need to be productive, the nice eighty degree weather is calling my name though, I think a walk around the little lake in town is on the agenda for early evening! I so hope Papa Bear catches lots of fish to bring home for our freezer! Just being away from the stress of work will do him a world of good. His work days are long, on his feet, and exhausting.

  4. Thanks for visiting us for 6WS! I am hoping your husband has a great fishing trip with his friend; I am sure it will be good for both of them! I'm with you; I always do like my alone time the few and far times get them if hubby is gone (though I do miss him of course) but I do like not having to plan a "big" dinner, can throw a TV dinner in the microwave and I especially like the remote control for the TV for myself for a few days. The nights are hard sometimes too because I do miss him around and don't sleep as good when he's not here. Enjoy the week; I'm sure it will go by fast!

    1. Thanks for the return visit Betty! I am never bored when I am alone, in fact I am never bored, I don't know the meaning of the word. I wish I had far more hours of freetime in life! I had to smile at having the remote control... not a wife in the world who can't relate to that! :-) Funny how we get used to having that warm body next to us and when they're missing we sense it and keep waking up. I never did get past that, even in the in-between marriages year when I lived alone.

    1. Same here restlessjo (and I love your name ;-) My husband will come home from work on Saturday afternoon to find me parked in front of my laptop table, and ask "What did you do today?", knowing full well that I didn't accomplish a whole lot. Saturday is my play day! He laughs at me, but he knows it's good for me too, this is how I relax and unwind from work.

  6. The magic of cell phones, etc. When Bing was in Africa a couple of years ago, it was soooo odd to get texts from her as if she were right next door.

    1. That would be ultra cool, Maria! It used to be that seperations were lonely times for partners and families, now we are all just a touchscreen away! I think of how wonderful this is for truckers who can keep in touch with their families without running up massive phone bills. My Iphone is one new-age wonder I would fight to keep. I know my Mom would have loved it, Dad watched her long distance phone calls to her daughters like a hawk, he even timed them... seven minutes was the limit!!

  7. I get a day off during the week and so enjoy it! I usually do some cleaning and catch up with some netflix and blogs.

  8. Sounds wonderful Kristi! Everyone should get a day all to themselves now and then, even parents and married folks! I am puzzled by people who say "but I get lonely or bored". Find something that you enjoy and do it, even if it's just relax or go for a walk in the fresh Spring air! Sounds like you are making good use of your time and I'm glad your schedule is set up that way!
